Prepare the holding for assessment
Product and ownership records
List product form, weight, stated purity, refinery details where available and the documentation supporting ownership. Match the inventory to the products being offered. Explain missing or inconsistent records before attempting settlement.
Condition and verification
Ask the prospective buyer what inspections, testing and documentation are required. Clarify whether condition or packaging affects acceptance. Use an appropriate independent specialist where needed; do not assume prior verification removes the buyer’s own requirements.
Compare executable quotations
Price and deductions
Request the reference price, quote time, premium or discount, and deductions for testing, refining or other services if applicable. Keep transport and handling separate. A quotation should identify the exact products and quantity so that comparisons reflect equivalent holdings.
Validity and settlement
Ask when the quotation expires and when the price becomes binding. Distinguish an indicative conversation from an agreed transaction. Record the payment currency, method and expected settlement sequence before relying on any proceeds.
Control the transfer process
Counterparty and authority
Establish buyer identity, payment arrangements and who is authorised to accept the metal. Confirm where inspection and handover occur. Use appropriately reviewed terms for responsibilities rather than relying only on messaging exchanges.
Inspection and cleared payment
Agree the order of inspection, acceptance, ownership transfer and payment. Identify how receipt of funds will be verified. Keep records of product delivery and financial settlement; an asserted payment or screenshot should not substitute for confirmation through the relevant institution.
Consider a full or partial sale
Product sizes and acceptance
Ask whether the buyer will accept part of the holding and what minimums or additional charges apply. Compare the actual net quotations. No universal assumption about the best quantity replaces the terms available for your specific products.
Indicative value versus proceeds
Maintain a separate figure for current inventory estimates and confirmed net proceeds. The difference may reflect product acceptance and costs as well as market movement. Read physical metals ownership and resale costs before treating the estimate as available cash.
Coordinate with the next capital commitment
Property and finance deadlines
If the intended use is a property deposit, handover balance or mortgage obligation, verify that funds will clear in time. Do not commit uncertain proceeds twice. Use the non-resident home-finance guide for a purchase from abroad.
The purpose of the sale
Record whether the sale meets an existing obligation or changes the wider portfolio. Use the combined property and metals review to discuss the implications with relevant professionals. This guide does not instruct you to sell or forecast silver prices.
